Great tips on how to fight the flu

Flu season is here and the Polk County Health Center reminds everyone that the season flu vaccine is the single best way to prevent the flu. PCHC has immunization clinics from 1-4 p.m. every Wednesday. The cost is free for people ages 65 and older and $25 for injection.

Another important part of flu prevention is proper hand washing. PCHC and health experts recommend handwashing with SOAP as a key action in protecting the public health because it’s important in infection control.

Water alone is not sufficient in removing germs. Soap must be used. It is especially important to wash hands after using the toilet, cleaning a child’s bottom, after coughing or sneezing into one’s hand, and before preparing food.

For flu shots, PCHC will bill Medicaid, and some insurances. Contact PCHC at 417-326-7250 for more information about flu shot clinics or flu prevention.
