Explanation
This Community Resource Directory was partially funded by a grant from the Bolivar Area Community Foundation to Polk County Community Connections.
Polk County Community Connections is a non-profit organization that the effort works cooperatively to identify those who need help and matching them with those people or groups of people that can help. The organization strives to unite existing efforts to improve the overall health of Polk County families by identifying needs and addressing them through current efforts. Community Connections is supported by a coalition of volunteers, churches, businesses, agencies, educators and healthcare providers from throughout Polk County.

Animals are available for adoption with fees for cats beginning at $65 and dogs beginning at $75. Shelter is open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:00 p.m.  – 5 p.m. and most Saturdays from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. or by appointment. Closed on Sunday and Tuesday.  Volunteers and donations welcome.

The pound is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 am – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm. Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 am – 12:30 pm and Saturday from 8 am. – 2 p.m.  Cats are available for adoption for $10 and dogs are available for $45. An initial pet license is available for $5 per year at Bolivar City Hall.

The Arc brought about significant changes in the communitys attitudes toward individuals with developmental disabilities and their needs.  They provide monthly community-wide public information forums for parent and sibling support groups, and provide assistance for group homes and workshops.
